FamilyHQ

Legal

Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and us for using the FamilyHQ app and website. They're written in plain language on purpose. Where a plain sentence and a legal one would say the same thing, we've used the plain one.

Effective 23 September 2026Version 2026-09-v1

1. Who we are

FamilyHQ is provided by The WDDNG Co, a company registered in South Africa (registration number 2026/583514/07) with its registered address at 19 Milcliff Road, Paulshof, Sandton, 2191, Gauteng, South Africa. In these terms "FamilyHQ", "we", "us" and "our" mean that company. "The app" means the FamilyHQ mobile applications for iOS and Android; "the service" means the app, the website at familyhq.tech, and everything they connect to.

2. Accepting these terms

By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information and forms part of this agreement. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. The app is made for adults running a household; it is not directed at children. A parent or guardian may record information about their own children in the app (see the Privacy Policy).

3. Your account

4. Households and sharing

FamilyHQ is built around a household: a group of accounts that share the same data. When you join a household with an invite code, everyone in that household can see and change the shared records — budgets, transactions, lists, the inventory, the feed, and so on. Personal wish lists are the exception and stay with their owner.

Only share an invite code with people you're happy to share all of that with. We can't undo what a household member sees or changes, and we can't remove a member on one person's say-so without confirming with the household.

Joining a household moves your account into it. Records you created under a previous household stay with that household.

5. What FamilyHQ is, and isn't

FamilyHQ is a tool for organising a household's money, shopping, home and family life. It shows you your own figures and, with Thuli, summarises and acts on them at your request.

It is not financial, legal, insurance or tax advice. Figures such as budget pace, debt payoff projections, replacement values and price comparisons are calculated from what you and other sources have entered and from the assumptions shown in the app. They can be wrong, out of date or not applicable to you. Check anything that matters — especially before making a financial decision, submitting an insurance claim, or relying on a price at a shop — and consult a qualified professional where appropriate. We are not a financial services provider under South African law.

The inventory report is a record you prepared, generated by the app. Whether an insurer accepts it is between you and the insurer.

6. Thuli and AI features

Thuli is an AI assistant. Some features — Thuli's chat and voice, reading receipts, identifying products and belongings from photos, pricing items at today's cost — use large language models and search services run by third parties on our behalf.

7. Premium subscriptions

Some features are only available with a FamilyHQ Premium subscription. Premium is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple's App Store (on iPhone and iPad) or Google Play (on Android). The current plans and prices are shown in the app before you buy; at the time of writing they are a weekly plan and a monthly plan, priced in South African rand, and the monthly plan includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.

8. Your content

Everything you put into FamilyHQ — transactions, lists, notes, photos of receipts and belongings, contacts, events — is yours. You give us only the licence we need to store it, show it to your household, back it up, and process it to provide the features you use (including sending the relevant parts to the AI services described above). That licence ends when the content is deleted, subject to backups that are cleared on their normal cycle.

You're responsible for having the right to add what you add — for example, photos that include other people, or another person's contact details.

Price data. If you switch on data sharing in Settings, prices from your receipts and lists are added to an anonymised pool that improves price comparisons for every household. Nothing that identifies you or your household is included, and you can switch it off at any time. It is off by default.

9. Acceptable use

Don't use the service to do anything unlawful, to harm or harass anyone, to store content you don't have the right to, to probe or overload our systems, to scrape or copy the service, to reverse-engineer the app beyond what the law allows, to resell access, or to circumvent limits or payment. Don't try to access another household's data. If you find a security problem, please tell us at the address below rather than exploiting it.

10. Our intellectual property

The app, the website, the FamilyHQ name and logo, Thuli, and all the software and design behind them belong to us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, under these terms and the rules of the store you got it from. Nothing here transfers ownership of any of it to you.

Product information looked up by barcode may include data from Open Food Facts, available under the Open Database Licence.

11. Third-party services

The service relies on third parties: Apple and Google for distribution and payment, Supabase for the database and sign-in, Microsoft Azure for hosting and AI models, and others listed in the Privacy Policy. Their terms apply to your use of their parts of the service. We're not responsible for them, but we choose them carefully.

12. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the service, and delete your account, at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used for fraud or abuse, or where the law requires it; we'll tell you why unless we're not allowed to. If we close your account for a reason that isn't your fault, we'll refund any unused part of a Premium subscription. We may also discontinue the service or parts of it with reasonable notice, in which case you can export your data first.

13. No warranty

We work hard to keep FamilyHQ accurate and available, but it's provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that AI output or calculations will be correct. Where the Consumer Protection Act or other law gives you rights that can't be excluded, those rights stand.

14. Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows: we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data or savings, arising from the service; and our total liability to you for anything arising from the service in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for Premium in that period. Nothing limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything that can't be limited under South African law.

15. Terms required by Apple

If you use the app on an Apple device, these additional terms apply, as Apple requires:

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, and the version and date at the top of this page will change. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms. If you don't, stop using the service and delete your account.

17. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. If we have a dispute, please email us first — most things can be sorted out that way. Otherwise the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction, and where the Consumer Protection Act applies you may also approach the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud or the National Consumer Commission.
